A Slip off the Wagon…

Pumpkin Carving with my Pumpkin

Wow, it sure has been a crazy few weeks!  I feel like we’re always so quick to say, “I’m so busy…” but doesn’t it sometimes feel like we really are?  I knew that I was waiting for the moment that I started to fall off the paleo/Whole30 wagon… 😦  I hate to say that this happened to me over the past several weeks.  I’ve fallen back into the “gluten-full,” grain-full, dairy-full way of life and boy am I feeling it!  Ugh… I honestly feel terrible!  I have caught myself so many times lately feeling so frazzled and feeling as though I don’t have time to make a healthy dinner so I’ve been caving and making a box of macaroni and cheese while in my head I tell myself that ‘tomorrow will be a different day!’  *Insert eye roll here…*  It was organic mac & cheese.. does that count as okay??

Isn’t this just so typical?  “I’ll do that tomorrow… I’ll start my diet next week… I’ll start exercising as soon as it gets a little colder outside…” I probably should go ahead and admit that I’ve said all of the above plus more!  I’ll be the first to raise my hand and say I’ve been SOOOOO bad over the past several weeks.  I haven’t been eating right, I haven’t been exercising and I think that’s why I haven’t posted on my blog for a while.  I haven’t been doing well and I’m almost ashamed to even admit it.  BUT, here’s the beautiful part, there isn’t anything to be ashamed of!  It happens… It happens to all of us. Even the best and most healthy people in the world still have all had moments of defeat at some point or another.  So I’m picking myself up by the bootstraps and moving forward.

I’ve decided to do a Whole7 this week… yes, I made it up.  I’m okay with it.  I am basically spending a full 7 days this week, starting yesterday, doing a mini-Whole30 for 7 days to get myself back on track.  I’ve still made some healthy choices along the way during my slip up so I’m proud of myself that I can still make a healthy choice here and there when I’m struggling.  That’s what Whole30 did for me! I’m not feeling that I need to do a Whole30 to get back to where I was.  I’m planning to do another Whole30 in January then in July again.  It’s going to be crucial that I get back on track again after all the holiday sweets and treats.

Instead of doing a Whole30, I’m going to do a focused Whole7 this week and cut out dairy, sugar, grains, etc.  I think my biggest temptation in life is dairy and grains.  I love bread… I LOOOOOVE bread.  I also really love pasta.  I bought my daughter a large 12 pack of Mac & Cheese from Costco and have found myself making myself a box for lunch… YIKES!  Dang that stuff tastes so good but I spent the remainder of my day feeling parched and super dehydrated.  I also felt sick to my stomach from the dairy and the grains.  You would think I’d know better after doing my Whole30 since I learned that I don’t react well to dairy and grains.

So here I am, starting again.  My husband was out of town this past week so I had a few  nights to myself and knew that it would be easy to just simply make myself something quick and “not-healthy” but I gave myself an attitude adjustment and made myself turkey tacos.  No grains, no gluten, no dairy, healthy!  Check!  I even went as far as making multiple meals at the same time so I could do some freezing for when I’m in a pinch and need something quick.  This is where I was lacking… I had not set myself up for success but I’m quickly changing that!  I’m heading out to pick myself up a deep freezer for storing healthy foods in!

You might be wondering, why would you make a good coach if you can’t even remain healthy 100% of the time?  This is exactly why I’d make a great coach for you.  I have been where you have been.  I’ve struggled with the same things you struggle with.  I had an unhealthy relationship with food and I was able to overcome it.  Am I perfect?  Absolutely not and I LOVE that about myself.  I make mistakes, I slip up but I regrouped and turned it back around again.  This time, I was able to turn it around in only a matter of a week or two vs. 10 years 🙂  I want to work with you!  Are you wanting to do a Whole30 but not sure where to get started?   Are you looking for meal ideas?  Do you have questions about the Paleo diet and how you can lose weight and make healthy choices?  Please contact me!  Fill out my contact me form or e-mail me at rachelcommerford@gmail.com.  I’d love to work with you!

Until next time 🙂
